Front and center, there’s little me as Gracie Shinn – the Mayor’s daughter (The Music Man). Circa 100 million years ago. It was the role in which I had my first EVER line. It was “TOMMY DJILAS DID IT TOMMY DJILAS DID IT” – yes of course I still remember it, I practiced it like I was getting paid by the letter.

Well. I suppose this marks my first blog post! As I’m putting the finishing touches on this website, I am (naturally) feeling very nostalgic. I look back at this picture and remember how DEEPLY excited I was when I saw my costume, the above teal blue dress, for the first time; it was like playing dressup, as I had for years, except I also got to sing AND I also got to dance AND I had a line that was all my own to say?! In front of people?! A dream come true. The joy of that realization must have been very powerful because the memory of the feeling still stirs something in my chest now. I’m thinking now, it’s funny: looking back on that, I am baffled that, apparently, sometimes I forget how simply magical art is.
